Pause, Pray, and …

3. Preach to Yourself

We can follow Jesus’s example of pausing and praying, but we must follow that up with Jesus Himself! John tells us that Jesus is the Word - and it is the Word that we need in the midst of this crazy life. When we preach to ourselves, we are reminding our hearts, minds, and souls of God’s promises and His truth.

Here are 5 reasons I need to preach to myself:

1. God’s Word gives me life.

“This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”

Psalm 119:50 (ESV)

2. God’s Word keeps me from sinning.

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:11

3. God’s Word reminds me to be thankful.

“I will give thanks to you Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”

Psalm 9:1

4. God’s Word settles the my heart and mind.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians 4:8

5. God’s Word gives me peace.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7

Which of these verses do you need to preach to your heart and mind today?

Friends, I pray that you are able to use the 3 P’s to help you settle your heart and mind in this crazy life. Pause, Pray, and Preach to yourself and Pursue the Peace that God has for you!
